The wait is almost over for football fans in Romania as the new Superliga season is just around the corner. The draw for the 2026-2027 season is set to take place on Friday, June 26, at the Marriott Hotel in Bucharest, and it promises to be an eventful evening.
The first round of matches is scheduled to take place between July 17-19, 2026, while the final matches will be played between May 28-30, 2027. This season promises to be just as thrilling as the previous ones, with a total of 16 teams vying for the top spot.
Special Requests for the Draw
One of the teams, Universitatea Craiova, will have an advantage in the draw, as they will not face Universitatea Cluj, CFR Cluj, or FCSB in the first seven rounds of the championship. However, other teams have also submitted special requests for the draw.
Universitatea Cluj has requested to play away in the first round, as well as in the third and fifth rounds, due to the Untold festival taking place in the city. Additionally, there is a clear ban on CFR Cluj and U Cluj from playing each other at home in the same round.
Stadium Concerns and Security Measures
The draw is not without its challenges, as several teams have raised concerns about their stadiums. Oțelul Galați and Dinamo have both requested to play away in the first round due to issues with their stadiums. Furthermore, FCSB and Dinamo have requested to be scheduled in a way that they do not play each other on the same stadium, to ensure that the forces of order can provide adequate security for the matches.
Similarly, in Sfântu Gheorghe, Sepsi and Csikszereda will have to share the same stadium, as the arena in Miercurea Ciuc will no longer be certified. UTA and Corvinul Hunedoara will also have to play on the “Francisc Neuman” stadium in Arad.
The Man Behind the Draw
The man responsible for carrying out the draw is none other than Ciprian Deac, a former football player with 7 Romanian league titles, 2 Romanian Cups, and 4 Romanian Super Cups, all with CFR Cluj. Deac, who retired from professional football at the age of 40, is now the vice-president of CFR Cluj and will be joined by Eduard Alexandru, the director of competitions for LPF, in carrying out the draw.
The draw promises to be an exciting event, with several awards to be presented, including the best Under 21 player of the season, the best goalkeeper of the previous season, the best player of the season, and the best coach of the season. The Superliga team of the season will also be announced.
