Rapid Bucharest’s promising young left-back Andrei Borza is on the verge of a significant move this summer, with club officials confirming ongoing negotiations and strong external interest. Victor Angelescu, Rapid’s executive, revealed there is a 75-80% chance that Borza will leave the club, although the club hopes to retain him if possible. The player’s release clause stands at €4 million, a figure Rapid insists must be met for any departure to happen.
Borza, 19, was acquired by Rapid two years ago from Farul Constanța for €800,000 and has since developed into one of Romania’s most promising talents. His performances earned him a spot in the Liga I Team of the Season for 2022-23 and appearances with Romania’s U21 national team. Among the interested parties is Genoa, an Italian club owned by businessman Dan Șucu, who appears keen to bring Borza to Serie A this summer.
At a recent club event unveiling Rapid’s new kits for the 2025/2026 season—comprising burgundy, white, and gray designs—Angelescu emphasized the symbolic importance of the jerseys, hoping they will be associated with future trophies. His comments on Borza underscored the club’s ambition to balance sporting success with financial prudence, aiming to secure a transfer fee reflective of Borza’s value while acknowledging the player’s potential departure.
This potential transfer marks a critical juncture for Rapid, as they seek to capitalize on Borza’s rising market value, currently estimated around €1.8-1.9 million, while managing squad continuity. Should the deal with Genoa or another suitor materialize, Rapid will need to identify a suitable replacement to maintain their competitive edge in Liga I.
