Rapid București faces a significant setback ahead of the 2025-2026 SuperLiga season as striker Borisav Burmaz has suffered a severe anterior cruciate ligament injury, sidelining him for approximately six to nine months depending on his recovery. This injury rules Burmaz out for most of the upcoming campaign, leaving Rapid with a depleted attacking line.
Burmaz, 24, who joined Rapid in January 2024 for €400,000 from Vozdovac, struggled to make a strong impact last season, scoring only four goals in 37 appearances. His prolonged absence compounds Rapid’s offensive challenges, especially after the summer departure of David Ankeye, who returned to Genoa.
With Burmaz out, Rapid’s frontline is left with just two forwards: Elvir Koljic, 29, a player frequently hampered by injuries, and the young Timotej Jambor, 22. To bolster their attacking options, Rapid is actively negotiating the signing of Abat Aymbetov, a free agent forward formerly with Adana Demirspor in Turkey, where he scored five goals in 27 appearances last season. The Kazakh striker, valued at around €450,000 on Transfermarkt, had previously been close to joining FCSB earlier in 2024 before talks stalled over squad issues.
Rapid will kick off the new SuperLiga season on July 11 with an away match against FC Argeș, broadcast live on Digi Sport 1 at 21:30. The club’s urgent need for attacking reinforcements will be a key storyline as they look to navigate a challenging season with a reshaped forward line.
