Rapid București is currently in negotiations over the future of promising left-back Andrei Borza, with club president Victor Angelescu estimating a 75-80% chance the 19-year-old will be sold this summer. Borza, who joined Rapid two years ago from Farul Constanța for €800,000, holds a €4 million release clause, which the club insists must be met for any transfer to proceed.

Angelescu emphasized that while there is clear interest in Borza—including from Serie A side Genoa, whose owner Dan Șucu has shown intent to sign him—the club does not necessarily want to sell unless the clause is activated. He stated, “We are negotiating, but we don’t have to sell. If the clause is paid, fine. I believe 75-80% he will leave, but we hope he stays. He won’t leave for less than €4 million because he is our player”.

Borza’s rise has been rapid; at just 19, he is already valued at around €2 million and has featured for Romania’s U21 national team. His development at Rapid has made him one of the most sought-after young defenders in Liga I, reflecting his strong performances and potential to succeed at a higher level.

In tandem with transfer talks, Rapid unveiled their kits for the 2025/2026 season, featuring a claret home strip, white away, and grey third kit. Angelescu conveyed a heartfelt message to fans, hoping the new jerseys will become symbols of future triumphs, perhaps a league title or cup victory, underscoring the club’s ambition and connection with supporters.

This transfer saga highlights Rapid’s strategic balancing act: nurturing young talent like Borza while capitalizing on market opportunities to strengthen the club’s financial and sporting position. Should the €4 million clause be met, Rapid will secure a significant return on investment, enabling further squad reinforcements as they aim to challenge for domestic honors.
