Rapid București is on the verge of securing a significant attacking reinforcement with the imminent signing of Antoine Baroan, the 25-year-old French forward currently contracted to Swiss top-tier club FC Winterthur. The deal, reportedly close to completion, marks a strategic move by Rapid’s management, led by Dan Șucu and Victor Angelescu, to bolster their offensive options under coach Costel Gâlcă.
Baroan, valued at around €800,000 according to Transfermarkt, was previously linked with Dinamo but appears set to join Rapid, with an official presentation expected imminently. The transfer fee is estimated at approximately €400,000, a sum Rapid will pay Winterthur. Baroan is set to earn a monthly salary of €25,000 at the Romanian club.
Standing at 1.88 meters, Baroan offers versatility as he can operate not only as a central striker but also on the flanks. Last season, he spent time on loan at Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad, where he scored two goals and contributed two assists in seven appearances. Since joining Winterthur in February 2024, he has netted five goals and provided four assists across 36 matches.
This signing comes in the wake of a serious injury to Rapid’s striker Burmaz, leaving Elvir Koljic and Timotej Jambor as the only other attacking options. With Baroan’s arrival, Rapid aims to strengthen their frontline ahead of the new season after finishing 5th in the SuperLiga playoffs.
The acquisition of Baroan signals Rapid’s intent to compete more vigorously in the Romanian top flight by enhancing their attacking depth and tactical flexibility.
