Nana Boateng Transfer Marks End of Two-Year Spell at Jeonbuk

Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors has officially announced the departure of Ghanaian midfielder Nana Boateng after two seasons with the K League 1 club. Brought to South Korea by coach Dan Petrescu in late 2023 from Romanian side CFR Cluj, Boateng’s contract expired, and the parties have parted ways by mutual consent. During his stint, the 31-year-old defensive midfielder made 50 appearances across all competitions, contributing mainly through his tactical discipline and defensive solidity rather than goal-scoring, with one goal registered.

Boateng’s exit may reignite interest from CFR Cluj, his former club, which has a history of re-signing players who performed well previously. This marks a potential return for the midfielder to Romanian football, where he had established his reputation before moving abroad.

Meanwhile, Andrea Compagno, Boateng’s teammate at Jeonbuk since February 2025, is also poised for a transfer. Japanese club C-Osaka has expressed strong interest, initially offering €5 million for the Italian forward. Jeonbuk has not accepted this bid outright and is reportedly awaiting season’s end to make a final decision. Yokohama FC has also entered the fray, willing to increase the offer to €5.5 million. Jeonbuk’s management will consider both financial terms and Compagno’s preferences regarding his next club.

Compagno, who previously impressed in Romania’s Liga 1 with FCSB by scoring 20 goals in 55 matches, was transferred to Jeonbuk for a relatively modest fee of €120,000. His potential departure reflects the ongoing reshaping of Jeonbuk’s squad and highlights the increasing mobility of players within Asian leagues.

This double transfer movement signals a period of transition for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors as they prepare for the remainder of the season, balancing squad refreshment with strategic player sales.
