Nana Antwi, another season at FC Hermannstadt

Ghanaian right-back Nana Antwi will remain at FC Hermannstadt for another season on loan from FCSB, following an agreement between the two clubs. After a solid 2024/25 campaign with Hermannstadt, where he impressed as a dependable defender, Antwi returned to FCSB this summer only to find himself outside the champion’s first-team plans. FCSB owner Gigi Becali has decided to loan him out again, with Hermannstadt and FCSB agreeing that the player’s salary will now be shared equally between the two clubs, a change from last season when FCSB covered the full wage.

Antwi joined FCSB in early 2024 from Armenia’s Urartu FC for a transfer fee of €50,000 and was hailed by Becali as a major signing, nicknaming him “The Rocket.” However, competition for the right-back spot with players like Valentin Crețu and Alexandru Pantea limited his opportunities at FCSB. The renewed loan is seen as a strategic move by FCSB to keep the player developing while retaining his long-term rights.

Meanwhile, FCSB may still reinforce the right-back position despite initially claiming to have closed the transfer window. David Maftei, currently owned by Farul Constanța and recently on loan at Oțelul under coach Dorinel Munteanu, is a candidate for the role. Munteanu praises Maftei’s talent, speed, and crossing ability but notes his need to improve discipline, tactical awareness, and one-on-one duels. He believes Maftei has the potential to handle FCSB’s high-pressure environment if he commits fully to professional standards.

This development reflects FCSB’s ongoing efforts to strengthen their defensive options while managing player development through strategic loans. Nana Antwi’s continued presence at Hermannstadt allows him to gain valuable playing time in the SuperLiga, which is crucial for his growth and potential future role at FCSB.
