Rapid Bucharest has officially named Italian Mauro Pederzoli as their new sporting director, signing him on a two-year contract to oversee transfers, player recruitment, and coordination with the coaching staff. Pederzoli, formerly of Parma with extensive international experience, will play a pivotal role in shaping Rapid’s squad strategy, managing the wage budget, and integrating youth players into the first team as Rapid aims to return to the top tier of Romanian football.

Meanwhile, former Rapid captain Cristi Săpunaru had attempted to bring promising young talent Alexandru Musi to the club. Musi, a 20-year-old with a background at FCSB, Poli Iași, and Petrolul, was viewed by Săpunaru as a key under-21 player who could make a significant impact. Săpunaru believed Musi was a market opportunity, especially given Dinamo’s owner Gigi Becali’s apparent willingness to offload him. However, the transfer did not materialize, and Musi was instead included in the Dennis Politic deal that sent him to Dinamo, one of Rapid’s local rivals in Bucharest.

Rapid’s summer transfer activity has been relatively modest, with only three signings confirmed: Drilon Hazrollaj from Malisheva for €900,000, free agent Lars Kramer following his departure from Aalborg BK, and Kader Keita from CFR Cluj for €200,000. The Giulești side kicks off their Liga I campaign on Friday, July 11, away to FC Argeș, broadcast live on Digi Sport 1.

The appointment of Pederzoli signals Rapid’s intent to build a competitive squad under new management, while Săpunaru’s unsuccessful pursuit of Musi reflects the complexities of player movements within Bucharest’s football rivalries. Rapid’s focus on strategic recruitment and squad balance will be crucial as they aim for a strong finish in the upcoming season.
