Ilie Bolojan Austerity Measures: What’s in the Economic Reform Plan?

Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan recently addressed austerity measures aimed at reducing the country’s budget deficit. While discussing these measures, he noted that it’s easy to offer advice from the sidelines. The austerity package includes significant fiscal adjustments such as changing VAT rates, increasing taxes on alcohol and tobacco, and higher taxes on banking and gaming sectors. Bolojan also mentioned plans to limit public sector salary increases and reform pension contributions.

Bolojan’s comments came during an appearance on “Ediție Specială” with Claudiu Pândaru, where he touched on various political figures, including Nicușor Dan. However, the focus remained on the economic reforms.

In this context, Bolojan’s remarks underscore the challenges of implementing austerity measures while maintaining public support.
