Flavius Stoican, the experienced coach who led Farul in their promotion/relegation play-off at the end of last season, has been officially presented as the new head coach of CS Drobeta Turnu Severin, the team that recently earned promotion to Liga 3.
The 49-year-old Stoican held his first press conference since taking the reins, accompanied by his assistants, Ștefan Bărboianu and Marius Avram. In a few short days, Stoican confirmed that he was in talks with the team, and now the official announcement has been made.
“I’m thrilled to be back home,” Stoican said. “I’m committed to a project that I believe has a bright future, and I want to build a competitive team. I want to give a chance to the players who are already under contract.”
Stoican has his work cut out for him, as he has 15 players from the Mehedinți region, including 12 who played for the team last season. He’s also brought in some new talent, including goalkeeper Mario Ibinceanu, a promising young player born in 2008, and Adiță Gîdea, a seasoned player who recently played for CFR Cluj in Liga 1.
The objective of CS Drobeta is clear: build a competitive team, raise performance standards, and achieve results that will bring pride to the city of Drobeta-Turnu Severin. With Stoican at the helm, the team is off to a promising start.

He has worked with numerous teams, including CSM Reșița, Dinamo, Dinamo II, Chindia Târgoviște, CS Mioveni, FC Voluntari, Zimbrul Chișinău, Pandurii Târgu Jiu, Poli Iași, Petrolul Ploiești, Viitorul Târgu Jiu, FCU Craiova, and FC Botoșani, among others. However, despite his extensive experience, Stoican has yet to win a major trophy as a coach.
