FCSB Enter Grueling Summer Stretch as Season Kicks Off with Supercup Triumph

FCSB’s demanding 2025–26 campaign has begun in earnest, with the Romanian champions facing a relentless schedule of 17 matches over just 57 days. The club claimed its first trophy of the season on Saturday, June 5th 2025, defeating rivals CFR Cluj 2-1 to lift the Romanian Supercup — but that was only the beginning of a packed and crucial summer.

FCSB to Play 17 Matches in 57 Days in Summer 2025

On Tuesday, FCSB host Inter Club d’Escaldes of Andorra in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. While the tie heavily favors the Romanians on paper, it signals the start of a series of matches that will see the team play every three days through the end of August.

Should FCSB progress as expected past Escaldes, they will face either The New Saints (Wales) or Shkëndija (North Macedonia) in the second qualifying round. Even if they eventually drop out of the Champions League qualifiers, they are virtually guaranteed a place in the UEFA Conference League play-offs at minimum, ensuring their European journey extends deep into the summer.

Domestically, the Superliga kicks off on July 12 with a home match against Hermannstadt, followed by seven more league games before the international break in early September. Combined with potential European fixtures and the Supercup win, FCSB are on track to play 17 competitive matches in less than two months.

Last season, the Bucharest giants played 64 matches across all competitions—including a run to the Europa League Round of 16—raising concerns about player fatigue and squad depth. That strain could be even more acute this time around as manager Elias Charalambous and assistant Mihai Pintilii navigate both a title defense and a European push.

This brutal early-season schedule could define FCSB’s domestic and continental ambitions—long before the leaves begin to fall.
