FCSB is reportedly considering adding David Maftei, a promising young right-back from Farul Constanța, to their squad this summer despite earlier indications from owner Gigi Becali that the club would not be active in the transfer market. Maftei, who spent last season on loan at Oțelul Galați under the guidance of coach Dorinel Munteanu, has attracted attention for his speed, crossing ability, and potential, though he still needs to improve his one-on-one duels and tactical understanding.
Dorinel Munteanu, who coached Maftei for 14 matches last season, expressed confidence in the player’s future and believes Maftei could handle the pressure at a club like FCSB if he remains disciplined and focused on performance. Munteanu praised Maftei’s talent and work ethic and welcomed the possibility of him joining the Romanian champions, highlighting the need for young players to stay connected to discipline and seriousness to realize their potential.
FCSB’s pursuit of Maftei is part of a broader strategy to reinforce their squad with U21 players, especially in the right-back position, where they must comply with league regulations. Alongside Maftei, FCSB is also considering Andrei Dorobanțu from Unirea Slobozia as an alternative option. Both players are about 20 years old and have demonstrated consistent performances in the lower leagues and Liga 2.
This move comes as FCSB prepares for the upcoming season and UEFA Champions League qualifiers, aiming to strengthen their squad depth and maintain compliance with the U21 rule. The club has already secured several signings, including Daniel Graovac, Denis Alibec, and Dennis Politic, while recalling Ovidiu Perianu and Laurențiu Vlăsceanu from loan spells, signaling an active summer transfer window.
If the transfer materializes, Maftei’s addition would provide FCSB with a youthful and dynamic option at right-back, potentially boosting their defensive options and supporting their ambitions domestically and in European competitions.
