Farul Constanța has announced with deep sadness the death of Dumitru Tănase, a revered former midfielder and club legend, who passed away at the age of 81.
A product of Farul’s youth academy, Tănase dedicated 12 years of his professional career to the club, making nearly 200 appearances in Romania’s top division between 1963 and 1975. His long-standing commitment and performances made him a beloved figure among the “Mariners” faithful.
In March 2024, shortly after his 80th birthday, Tănase was honored by the current team and head coach Gică Hagi, who invited him to perform the ceremonial kickoff in a league match against CFR Cluj that ended 1-1. The club also presented him with a jersey signed by the entire squad as a gesture of respect and gratitude.
Tănase’s passing comes just a month after the death of another Farul former player, Vasile Mănăilă, highlighting a somber period for the club and its community.
Farul Constanța’s official statement expressed sincere condolences to the family and acknowledged Tănase’s lasting impact on the club’s history.
This loss marks the end of an era for Farul Constanța, a club that continues to honor its past while building for the future.
