Romanian champions, Corona Brașov, have secured their place in the third qualifying round of the Volleyball Champions League after an intense showdown against Switzerland’s champions, Volley Schönenwerd, in Brașov.

After winning the first leg in Switzerland 3-1, the Brașov team needed just two sets to qualify. However, things took an unexpected turn as they found themselves trailing 2-0 in sets, putting their qualification in jeopardy. At one point, in the third set, with Schönenwerd leading 14-7, many were already anticipating a golden set to decide the winner.

But what followed was nothing short of spectacular. Corona staged an incredible comeback, saving three match points and then missing ten of their own chances to secure the qualification. Finally, on the 11th opportunity, they sealed the deal, ensuring their advancement. Although Schönenwerd won the decisive set 15-11, it wasn’t enough to knock out the Romanian side.

A huge congratulations to Corona Brașov and their coach, Laurențiu Lică, for this dramatic and hard-fought victory. Up next, they are likely to face Olympiakos Piraeus in a double-header to qualify for the Champions League group stage. The first leg will take place in Brașov on October 17th.
