Constantin Schumacher will not continue as head coach of Minaur Baia Mare for the 2025/26 Liga 3 season after failing to secure promotion this summer. The Romanian coach, originally from Fălticeni, declined Minaur’s contract renewal offer, reportedly due to a proposed salary reduction and an attractive opportunity closer to home. He is now poised to take over at SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea, a fellow Liga 3 club that also missed promotion, replacing Eugen Beza.

Schumacher took charge of Minaur Baia Mare in January 2025, succeeding Marius Popescu during a turbulent season that began with Francisc Dican as coach. Under Schumacher, Minaur finished the regular season atop their series, improving from second place after 15 rounds, and secured second place in the promotion play-offs. However, they were eliminated in the promotion semi-finals by Poli Timișoara in a dramatic penalty shootout after two draws.

The club formally announced Schumacher’s departure on July 7, expressing gratitude for his professionalism, dedication, and impact during his short tenure. Schumacher cited personal reasons for stepping down, a decision respected by Minaur’s management.

In response, Minaur is reportedly in advanced talks with Flavius Sabău, 41, who recently left SCM Zalău. Sabău had been considered for the Minaur job earlier in the year before the club opted for Schumacher. He brings experience from several lower-league clubs and roles as a technical director and individual development coach, suggesting Minaur aims to maintain a competitive edge in their pursuit of promotion.

Additionally, Minaur will see some player turnover, with Mircea Donca confirmed to leave for CSM Olimpia Satu Mare in Liga 2, signaling a potential squad rebuild ahead of the new campaign.

This coaching change underscores the high expectations and pressure on Liga 3 teams to achieve promotion, with Minaur Baia Mare aiming to bounce back quickly after narrowly missing out this season. The appointment of Sabău could bring fresh tactics and renewed ambition as the club prepares for another promotion bid.
