Constantin Schumacher will not continue as head coach of Minaur Baia Mare for the upcoming 2025/26 Liga 3 season, following the club’s failure to secure promotion this summer. Despite Minaur’s desire to retain him, Schumacher declined the renewal offer, reportedly due to a proposed salary reduction and a more attractive opportunity closer to home at SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea.

Schumacher, originally from Fălticeni, took charge of Minaur Baia Mare in January 2025, replacing Marius Popescu. Under his leadership, Minaur finished the regular season atop Serie 10 after 15 rounds and ultimately second in the playoff, narrowly missing promotion after a tense semifinal playoff against Poli Timișoara, which ended in a penalty shootout loss.

The club officially announced their separation from Schumacher on July 7, expressing gratitude for his professionalism and dedication during his brief tenure. Schumacher is now close to finalizing a deal with SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea, a Liga 3 side that also missed promotion and recently parted ways with coach Eugen Beza, who has returned to CSC Șelimbăr in Liga 2.

Meanwhile, Minaur Baia Mare is reportedly pursuing Flavius Sabău as their new head coach. Sabău, 41, recently left SCM Zalău after managing them through the Liga 3 playoff battle. He had been considered by Minaur earlier this year before they appointed Schumacher, and now discussions appear to be progressing toward his appointment.

Additionally, midfielder Mircea Donca will not remain with Minaur, having signed with CSM Olimpia Satu Mare to continue in Liga 2.

This coaching shuffle reflects the competitive and often volatile nature of Liga 3, where clubs are eager to find the right leadership to achieve promotion ambitions. Minaur’s choice of Sabău signals their intent to remain contenders, while Schumacher’s move to Râmnicu Vâlcea could strengthen their rivals in the same division.
