Farul‘s preseason campaign drew to a close on a high note as they thrashed Dinamo 3-1 at the “Arcul de Triumf” stadium, with head coach Ioan Ovidiu Sabău expressing satisfaction with his team’s performance.

The 58-year-old tactician believes that the team is starting to show consistency, with the new players adapting well to his demands. However, he emphasized that he needs more time before setting ambitious targets for the season. This comes as no surprise, given the team’s aim to qualify for the play-off stage in the new season, as announced by financier Gică Popescu last week.

Farul’s Ambitions

Sabău was cautious when asked about his team’s prospects of finishing in the Top 6, preferring to wait and observe his team’s progress before making any bold claims. “I haven’t made up my mind yet. I need a few more matches to analyze the team, see what we’re capable of, and the pressure we can apply,” he said.

The focus, for now, seems to be on building a solid foundation, with Sabău emphasizing the importance of consistency and team cohesion. “I’m starting to see some relationships develop on the pitch, the new players are integrating well, and they’re adapting to our system of play. We needed a consistent performance, for the players to feel good, and for the team to have a certain dynamism. And that’s exactly what we got today,” he explained.

Building a Competitive Squad

Sabău acknowledged that the team still needs to strengthen their squad before the start of the new season. “We’re working on that. We want to have competition for places, as players will get injured or suspended, and we need to have quality on the training ground to make our sessions more challenging,” he said.

The head coach also addressed the departure of Alexandru Ișfan, who joined Oviedo, stating that it was impossible to hold onto a player who had received an attractive offer and was at a crucial stage of his career. “It’s not easy to keep a player when they receive an offer, especially at his age and after a great season. The club did the right thing, and I’m sure he’ll do well in Spain,” Sabău concluded.

Manager’s Message

With the team’s preseason campaign now over, Farul will look to build on this momentum as they head into the new season. The team’s management has expressed confidence in Sabău’s ability to deliver, and the head coach has sent a clear message that he’s committed to achieving the team’s goals.

As Sabău put it, “We’ll have the support of the management to achieve our minimum objective, which is to qualify for the play-off stage again.” With a strong squad, a good pre-season, and a clear plan, Farul is looking to make a statement in the new season.

The question on everyone’s mind is: can they go all the way and challenge for the title?
