Andrei Lascu, the newly signed left midfielder at Steaua București, has set ambitious goals for the upcoming Liga 2 season. Although Steaua is currently barred from promotion to Romania’s SuperLiga, Lascu is determined to lead the team to a first-place finish in the second division and make a deep run in the Romanian Cup.

Lascu, originally from Zărnești, joined Steaua this summer after a productive spell with ACSM Reșița, where he featured in 27 Liga 2 matches and scored two goals in the 2024-2025 season. Despite moving from a club with promotion rights to one without, he remains motivated to contribute significantly and secure the top spot alongside his new teammates.

Currently, Lascu is fully committed to impressing head coach Daniel Oprița and earning a starting position. Steaua is conducting a training camp in Bansko, Bulgaria, from July 7 to 18, where the squad will play four friendly matches against second-tier teams from Georgia and Bulgaria. Lascu is preparing rigorously to stand out during this period, alongside fellow new signing and former ACSM Reșița teammate Ianis Doană.

Reflecting on his integration into the squad, Lascu stated, “I found a great group here, and the boys welcomed me warmly. The first camp was tough but rewarding, and we’re moving forward. Honestly, I want us to finish first in Liga 2 and go as far as possible in the Romanian Cup, competing against strong Liga 1 teams.” His ambitions highlight both his personal drive and Steaua’s competitive intentions despite their promotion restrictions.

Steaua’s pre-season friendlies will test the squad’s readiness and tactical cohesion, facing FC Samtredia (Georgia), FC Hebar Pazardzhik, and Marek Dupnitsa (both Bulgarian Liga 2 teams), with the last opponent yet to be confirmed.

Lascu’s arrival, along with other recent signings—including Ianis Doană, Mario Ioniță, and two Spanish players—signals Steaua’s intent to build a strong squad capable of dominating Liga 2 and making a statement in the domestic cup.
