Universitatea Craiova has reinforced its squad this summer by acquiring promising 19-year-old midfielder Luca Băsceanu from Farul Constanța for a reported fee of €1 million. Băsceanu, a product of the Gheorghe Hagi Academy and one of Romanian football’s rising talents, signed a four-year contract with Craiova and was officially presented on July 1st. The transfer also includes a 20% sell-on clause benefiting Farul. Băsceanu has already gained Liga I experience with Farul and represented Romania at multiple youth international levels.
In a reciprocal move, Universitatea Craiova has decided to part ways with Alexandru Ișfan, who is set to sign with Farul Constanța. Ișfan, once hailed as a major prospect after his transfer from FC Argeș for €650,000 in January 2023, failed to make a significant impact at Craiova. Despite featuring in 27 matches, he managed only one assist and spent time on loan at Petrolul and Gloria Buzău before returning to Craiova this summer. With his market value currently around €250,000, Craiova has opted to release him permanently, allowing Ișfan to continue his development at Farul.
This exchange marks a strategic reshuffle for both clubs: Craiova invests in youthful potential with Băsceanu, aiming to boost their creative options under coach Mirel Rădoi, while Farul acquires a player with experience in the Romanian top flight who could benefit from more playing time. The moves also underscore the fluid player market dynamics within Liga I, where clubs actively trade emerging talents to balance squad needs and financial considerations.
The transfer activity signals Universitatea Craiova’s ambition to strengthen their squad depth and inject fresh talent, potentially impacting their competitiveness in the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Alexandru Ișfan’s move to Farul offers him a crucial opportunity to revive his career in a familiar environment.
