Romanian SuperLiga club FC Hermannstadt has secured a significant defensive reinforcement by signing Cypriot international Andreas Karo, 28, on a two-year contract. The defender, who will wear the number 3 jersey, joins the Sibiu-based side as a free agent following his departure from Maccabi Petah Tikva, with whom he won the Israeli State Cup in the 2023-2024 season.
Karo boasts an impressive and diverse career, having developed in the youth academy of Nottingham Forest before playing for notable clubs such as Apollon Limassol, Nea Salamis, Pafos, Anorthosis U21, and APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus. His experience extends to Italy with Lazio Roma and Salernitana, Greece with OFI Crete, and Israel with Maccabi Petah Tikva.
Among his career highlights are winning the Cypriot Cup and Super Cup with Apollon Limassol in the 2016-2017 season and being named the best player of the Cypriot First Division in 2019. Internationally, Karo has earned 28 caps and scored once for Cyprus since his debut in 2019.
Upon signing, Karo expressed enthusiasm about competing in Romania’s top division and ambitions to help Hermannstadt surpass last season’s achievements, urging fans for wholehearted support. His signing marks the club’s fifth acquisition this summer, following midfielders Diogo Batista, Dragoș Albu, Patrick Vuc, and defender Luca Stancu.
With his blend of international experience and proven winning pedigree, Andreas Karo is expected to bolster Hermannstadt’s defensive stability and contribute to their aspirations in the highly competitive SuperLiga.
