Politehnica Iași has kicked off the week with their eighth summer signing, bolstering their defensive options by acquiring Romanian defender Ricardo Farcaș from FC Bihor Oradea. The 25-year-old versatile defender, capable of playing both as a center-back and left-back, is expected to sign a two-year contract following his medical examination.

Born on June 24, 2000, in Oradea, Farcaș brings a wealth of experience from his youth and senior career across Europe. He developed at Arsenal’s Greek academy before moving to Ajax Amsterdam’s youth setup, where he won a championship. After completing his junior career in Italy with SPAL, he signed for Siena and later played for FC Bihor, helping them secure promotion to Romania’s Liga II.

Farcaș’s arrival provides coach Tony da Silva with critical depth in central defense, a position previously covered mainly by Mohammed Umar and fellow summer signing Alin Șeroni. This addition comes shortly after da Silva expressed the need to reinforce multiple areas of the squad.

Alongside Farcaș, Politehnica Iași has made several key acquisitions this summer, including midfielders Dragoș Iancu, Alexandru Jipa, Darius Ghindovean, and young right-back Ștefan Opriș, as well as Portuguese defenders Ruben Silva and Bruno Lopes. Only two of these new arrivals are foreign players, highlighting the club’s focus on a balanced squad composition.

In terms of squad management, following a recent friendly loss, da Silva decided to release several young trialists, streamlining the team ahead of the new season. Meanwhile, the club secured contract extensions for goalkeeper Jesus Fernandez and forward Sekou Camara, both pivotal figures in the club’s promotion ambitions.

Farcaș’s signing not only adds quality and versatility to Politehnica Iași’s backline but also signals the club’s clear intent to build a competitive squad capable of challenging for promotion to Romania’s top tier.
